Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Griffin Nelms (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and discloses your information when you use the Dark Advisor mobile application (the “Service”), and explains your privacy rights. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Definitions
- Account means the unique account created for you to access the Service.
- Application / Service means Dark Advisor, the mobile application we provide.
- Company (“we”, “us”, “our”) refers to Griffin Nelms.
- Device means any device that can access the Service, such as a phone or tablet.
- Personal Data means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
- Usage Data means data collected automatically when using the Service.
- You means the individual accessing or using the Service.
1. Information we collect
Personal Data
By default the App signs you in anonymously, and no name or email is required to use it. The personal information we may collect is limited to:
- Account details — if you choose to link an account, we receive the information your sign-in provider (Apple or Google) shares with us, such as your name and email address.
- Profile details you provide — information you enter during onboarding, such as a display name and age, and the preferences generated by the in-app assessment.
- Purchase information — if you buy a subscription, we and our payments processor (RevenueCat) receive your purchase history and subscription status (product, price, renewal state) together with a random app user ID. We never receive your credit-card or full payment details — payment is handled entirely by Apple.
We do not collect your phone number, precise location, or contacts.
Content you create
The Service stores the content you create so it is available to you across your devices: habits, habit completions, goals, journal entries, situational logs, notes, and earned skill points. This content is private to your account.
Usage Data
Usage Data may be collected automatically when you use the Service. It can include your device type and operating system, unique device identifiers, IP address, and diagnostic information such as crash and performance data, collected by our infrastructure providers in order to operate the Service reliably. Specifically:
- Analytics — we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used in aggregate (for example, which onboarding steps are completed and which features are opened). These events contain feature names, counts, and similar interaction data only — never the content you write (such as journal entries or habit names) — and we do not link them to your identity or account.
- Crash reporting — we use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic information (device model, OS version, stack traces) so we can find and fix bugs. Crash reports are not linked to your identity.
- Abuse prevention — we use Firebase App Check, which relies on Apple’s device attestation services, to verify that requests to our backend come from a genuine copy of the App.
Analytics and crash data are used only to operate and improve the Service — not for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. The App does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking beacons, and these legal pages are static web pages that do not set cookies.
2. How we use your information
- To provide, maintain, and sync your data across your devices.
- To manage your account and registration.
- To personalize your experience (for example, recommendations from the assessment).
- To process your subscription and determine which features your account has access to.
- To understand how the App is used in aggregate so we can improve it.
- To respond to feedback, bug reports, and feature requests you send us.
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, abuse, or security incidents.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
3. How your data is stored and processed
Your data is stored and processed using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, Firebase Authentication, Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Remote Config, and Firebase App Check), which acts as our data processor. Each user’s data is scoped to their own account and is not part of any public dataset. Google processes this data on our behalf under its own terms; see Google’s Firebase privacy practices.
Subscription purchases are managed using RevenueCat, which processes purchase and subscription information (see “Purchase information” above) on our behalf; see RevenueCat’s privacy policy. Payment itself is processed by Apple through your App Store account.
4. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information or share it with advertisers, and your data is not visible to other users. We share information only in these limited situations:
- With service providers — such as Google Firebase, which hosts and processes your data so we can operate the Service, and RevenueCat, which manages subscription purchases.
- For legal reasons — where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the Service.
- Business transfers — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will require the recipient to honor this Privacy Policy.
- With your consent — for any other purpose you explicitly agree to.
5. Data retention and deletion
We retain your Personal Data only for as long as your account exists and as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy — including to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the App (Account → Delete account). You may also request deletion by emailing us at darkadvisorapp@googlegroups.com. We will delete your data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
6. Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.
8. Links to other websites
The Service may contain links to sites we do not operate, such as the App Store or our service providers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
